Explorations
Dorothea Lange said, “The camera is an instrument that teaches people how to see without a camera.”
While others may encourage me when traveling to “be here now” and put the camera down, I find that I am actually most present and most keenly aware of my surroundings when looking through a lens.
I approach photography as an explorer, whether it’s in foreign environments or close to home.
What can I discover? What can I learn? What can I share?
I offer a collection of images and field notes here that fall into three broad categories:
Explorations close to home (Backyard Geographic)
Expedition travelogs (International Geographic)
Stories behind individual photos (In the Loupe)
Enjoy.
